The Palazzo Vescovile of Portogruaro presents a fascinating journey through the centuries of Venetian history with the extraordinary exhibition ” La Dogaressa tra storia e mito. Venezianità al femminile dal Medioevo al Novecento ” (The Dogaressa between history and myth. Venetian femininity from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century), which will take place from 16.12.2023 to 19.03.2024.
This unique exhibition focuses on the figure of the Dogaressa, the wife of the Venetian Doge, and gives her the recognition she deserves as a true “First Lady ante litteram“.
The charm of the Dogaressa
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to discover the feminine side of Venice through a wide range of artworks including paintings, books, prints, textiles, dresses and objects made of Murano glass.
These pieces reveal fascinating stories and details from the lives of the famous Dogaressas and other female personalities, including Peggy Guggenheim.
These women not only played a prestigious role alongside their husbands, but also distinguished themselves as promoters of entrepreneurial projects and innovative initiatives, making a significant contribution to the history of Venice.
