The lagoon, beloved by Ernest Hemingway, with its canals and the “casoni”, old cabins used as seasonal homes by anglers and made of reeds and wood, and the “Valle Vecchia” are between Bibione and Caorle. In this area, nature’s and man’s work create a unique environment that was recognised by the European Union as area in need of special protection and of community importance.
900 hectares of sandy shore, pinewood and lacustrine areas (where ornithologists have identified more than 150 bird types) make of this area the best place to discover a scenery where sea, lagoon and pinewood host a fascinating fauna. Tourists can visit the area by bicycle, by walking along paths or by boat along the Veneto waterway.
